Welcome to Practically Perfect Potty Training! I’m Jessica Thompson your coach and guide to help you and your child on the potty-training journey and help your family achieve the relief of a diaper-free life.
For many parents, potty training can feel daunting, exhausting, frustrating, and overwhelming. This is a normal response to a stressful situation, but don’t forget that it’s also exciting, fulfilling, and freeing. Once your child is potty-trained, the freedom you obtain without dealing with diapers will be well worth it. Another bonus? You’ll also save money on the cost of diapers! And that freedom extends to your child as well. Watching my clients learn how to potty train and blossom in front of my eyes in a few days time is truly fulfilling and it’s beautiful to experience them learning the joy, confidence and independence this new-found skill grants them.
I initially started this business after years of potty-training children with a 3-day method I’d learned from my mother and her mentor, who wrote a book on potty training in three days. While those teachings and mentorship remain my foundation for my potty-training practice, since
becoming a full-time potty trainer, I’ve continued to learn from all of my clients and I’ve learned that there is no set method or timeline, no one-size-fits-all and no magic wand for this process. I use a variety of tools and methods that are customized to my individual clients and my ultimate
goal is to create a safe, secure, and fun environment for your child that allows us to create a bond and connection where I can work to understand the root of their potty struggles and help find their “potty switch”. I strive to create a holistic experience that helps children embrace the potty
process and feel an autonomous hold over it. I have had children trained in as little as 1.5 days, while for other kids (particularly those with neurodivergence/special needs/delays or those with severe potty anxiety and resistance) it’s a longer process that I help parents lay the foundation
for. Every child is different, so I take my skills and understanding from working with children for over 25 years and combine it with my 20+ years of experience and research on potty training, my gut instinct, my passion for helping families and my innate ability to connect with children
quickly and create a bond and feeling of security that helps them embrace the self-reliance, confidence boost and freedom being a potty-trained big kid brings them. My expertise and extensive experience with children of all ages and personality types helps me identify the root of
issues that arise during the potty-training process.
When you book a package with me, whether in-home or virtual, I will do an initial assessment with you to determine the readiness not only of your child but of you and any other caregivers who will be assisting in the potty training process. I cannot stress enough that this will not be successful without EVERYONE being ready and able to commit to this process fully. It takes diligence, patience, and some moments of frustration, but it will be worth it.
Potty training in a few days does not mean that we wave a magic wand, and your child will automatically be 100% accident-free in that time. It’s like training of any kind and it takes time for your child to adjust to their new normal. Think of the initial days as “potty training bootcamp,” an intensive few days where your child learns all the steps and obtains the skills of being potty trained, but it can take a few weeks of a pattern to get their mindset fully shifted. Follow-through from parents and caregivers is key. Potty training can take longer if your child is older than 3 and/or has been potty trained and regressed, or if your child is neurodivergent. If
your child struggles and doesn’t take to the method, I re-evaluate, and will discuss how to pivot and move forward in finding what best suits them. For children, it’s about finding the “switch” in them, which can take some extra time for certain situations. We will discuss all of your child’s needs on our initial assessment call, and decide which package is right for you.
I’m so excited to work with you and your family and to help your little one go through this childhood rite of passage. I look forward to helping you get back to the freedom of a diaper-less life!
